So I've posted a few cryptic messages about gifts for this particular person and her birthday and since she received her package yesterday and had no patience to wait 1 freakin' day to open it!!!!, I can now post pictures of a couple of her gifts (the handmade ones anyway). You'll see a theme here but she loves sea turtles and
Thus the title of the blog post. Sandiana herself was having a pretty crappy week as well and when I got the email this morning thanking me and telling me how much it cheered her up...well, there is just something about the joy of giving and helping to put a smile on someone else's face that will bring your own mood right back to the realm of happy don't you think?
I'll respond individually to each of you but thanks for the words of sympathy about my missed trip (and while Susan is right that a yarn tour would be fun and easier on the body, it would not be easier on my bank account...especially considering I am still in a state of startitis!). But thanks for the suggestion! The next thing to get over a set-back like not being able to go on a trip....plan another one! While I won't be climbing Shasta, my husband and I will be going into the Eagle Cap Wilderness here in NE Oregon for a 4 day backpacking trip in a couple weeks...it's one of our favorite places to backpack...it's absolutely beautiful (a picture stolen from the web since I'm too lazy to search for the film prints I've taken of past trips into the area!).
This will happen in a couple weeks and I'm sure that physically I'll be up for it. It's strenuous hiking but maxes out at ~9600 ft so that whole altitude problem doesn't exist and makes it more doable in my current state. And that startitis I was talking about? Seems I was bitching about too hot to touch yarn yesterday (it was!), but in reality it was too hot to do anything else either and I was having trouble sitting still. So I added onto the lace top (I like this pattern and think it's coming out well!), and I started one more project. I'm done I swear. After my frustrating experience of reaching for the stars, I opted for an easy, mindless project that focused on stockinette stitch...so I present you the start of Marc, a quick cropped sweater pattern I latched onto as soon as I saw it. I think it will be a quick knit but it feels very strange to be using size 11 needles...things certainly knit up faster at that size! And I'm loving the color of this yarn...
Okay--back to work...actually first step will be a bit of cleaning. My house and working space generally reflect my state of mind. I've had two rough weeks and I can say just imagine what that looks like but really...I doubt you can. To borrow a phrase I love...my office looks like it threw up. So before I can be productive again, I MUST ORGANIZE!

Beautiful gifts! They certainly would have cheered me up. My mom loves sea turtles, and I made her a quilted wallhanging a few years ago, with handpainted fabric. Too pretty! I should post a pic to share.
Good job, and yes, it's nice to make people happy. That must be why knitters give so much away =)
Sounds like you are where I was last week.
Hard to clean when you keep getting distracted by your yarn, but sometimes harder still to concentrate on your knitting while the house falls down around you.
Blessings!
The altitude really gets to me, and everything is sort of straight up there. But beautiful. We keep talk about going back there to backpack Hurricane creek some day!
