No, I'm Not Going to Go....

Cowl crazy. But. One just jumped off the needles and I'm guessing there may be more in the future.

A few months ago, during one of my major lab stress periods, I did a little online browsing for yarn. You know how that works right? Stress = shopping. Don't deny it. Anyway. Jessi of Alabama Fiber Dreams had just updated her shop with some new hand-spun and one particular skein was calling out to me. But I know nothing about hand-spun and I didn't 'need' the skein. S
o I ignored it. For about 1 day. Then as I recall, I had yet another bad lab day and what little restraint I had went out the door. I bought it having absolutely no idea what I'd do with it. Since I received this beautiful, soft, wonderful skein, I've looked through some patterns on Ravelry and read some threads about the best patterns for hand-spun yarn. But nothing really jumped out at me for the yardage I had.

And then cowls starting appearing all over the place. I liked the idea and it fit well with the yardage I had. I wear neck gators for work a lot and so that type of accessory is actually more natural and comfortable for me than a scarf. So the research began. And I finally settled on a pattern. 3 days later...

Pattern: Beech Wood (Ravelry link) by Ilga Leja
Yarn: Rainbow Hematite from Alabama Fiber Dreams;
100% BFL; hand-spun DK to light worsted; 186 yards
Needles: US size 8.0
Modifications: Just the needle size.
Time: Started June 5. Finished June 9.
Ravelry link: Here

Verdict:
Another one I love. Love the colors of the yarn, the feel of the yarn and I love the texture and pattern of the finished cowl!

NICE! Nice nice. Handspun! I have been dying to try knitting with some handspun...I will have to check out Jessi's shop. Love the color you chose...I think you are having a thing for blue colorways right now. I have not made a cowl yet...and living in the great white north...that is a surprise...but I think I will do it closer to October, then I can wear it right away :)

What a wonderful cowl. Plus, you live in a place where you will get some wear out of it. this past winter, no snow. But I have to run. I hear thunder. Hot and thunderstorms.
