In the meantime.
I didn't have time because of work commitments to do much in the way of hand-made gifts this year, knitting or otherwise. Frustrating, yes, but just the way life goes sometimes. But with the help of Melissa who kept knitting cute thing after cute thing and giving me idea after freakin' idea, I did manage to get a few small things done for stocking stuffers. Thanks Melissa (aka enabler)!
When I saw these fish scrubbies I knew I had to make them for my good friend's husband (but first, go see Melissa's, they are cuter than mine!)...I love them but I knew he would open them up and have that 'I should smile and say thanks but I don't know what the heck they are' look on his face. And I'd get to laugh at him...simple childish pleasures. In the end, once he realized that they weren't each one side of a tiny mitten, they were very well received!

The second of Melissa's ideas was technically a mug warmer. But when I found these huge cups, I knew that instead, I'd aim for a 'soup cup' warmer. Said friend, whose husband received the fish scrubbies, eats soup almost every day for lunch...seemed perfect! Complete with an appropriate button to say Let It Snow! Again, you must also go see Melissa's.
Third knitted gift was the standing request from my brother's partner for some ballband dishcloths as his stocking gift. I was happy to oblige. oops, just realized I forgot to take a picture but made a red and green one for mom as well.
And finally, the knit that mom has requested from me for a couple years now...her very own 2-color Noro-striped scarf. When I asked repeatedly if she didn't want different colors, brighter colors, I was told to make it exactly like mine. So I obeyed as only a daughter does. All fun knits...the way it should be!

For someone who claims not to have managed much Christmas crafting I think you've made a huge amount - and I love the fish scrubbies, I might have to make some for my Mum who lives by the sea
Yes, I agree with Carie. You got a lot done!
heh heh - this is not the first time i've been called an enabler when yarn is involved!!
everything looks fantastic! i love your fish, and the soup mug cozie is perfect - i would love to eat soup that is cozied up in handknits!
your mom's scarf turned out wonderful - was she super excited to get it? did you take some mother/daughter matchy-match scarves pictures?
Wow, Rachel, you found some time to be very creative! I love that your friends want your art on their walls, how clever of them.
All great projects!
(And that Melissa, she's trouble in the enabling department you know.)
Adorable fishies!
And what nice friends, too!
How come you've made more gift knits than me and you don't think you made any? Lovely gifts all.
Looks like you made some very thoughtful gifts. Those are always the best. :-)
Those look like some great Xmas gifts! I especially liked the photography for your friends' home. They must really enjoy showcasing work from an artist they know and love.
Hello Rachel. I hope your year has started well.
You images are gorgeous! You did a lot of holiday crafting indeed.
I LOVE your fish scrubbies and soup mug cozie. Everything is so cute! I'm inspired to hurry up and get started on mine for next year.
Wow, that is a lot of Christmas knitting! Your idea of "not much" looks a lot like my idea of "a lot." And while it may be a bit zoomed out, I can see why your friends want copies of your pictures. And finally - fish! - more fish things for my queue!
melissa certainly is an enabler, isn't she! the good thing is that she always motivates us to knit wonderful things-- your are all completely lovely! what lucky friends you have!
