FO: Elijah for Tadpole

Normally I don't put up posts for gifted items until they are safely in the hands of the recipient. But in this case, though it may surprise her it actually got done, Rue knew it was coming...eventually. Now comes the hard part...packing up this cute little guy and sending it to her rather than keeping it for myself! No, really, I will...tomorrow. So be on the lookout Rue.

When I found out Rue was pregnant, I knew I wanted to knit 'Tadpole' a little something. Deciding on a green Elijah was a no-brainer. Green is Rue's favorite color (as well as one of mine), elephants are one of my favorite animals, toys aren't grown out of near as fast as clothes (and thus can be gifted months late and will still 'fit'...which truth be known is the main re
ason I love them). And geesh...I'm not sure Rue can fit any more hand-knits on little Tadpole anyway...so the only thing missing in that picture? A knitted toy. Check!

This is my second Elijah and I know there will be at least one more if not two. I can't say I enjoy knitting these toys...oh, it's fine until you get to the front legs and the ears. Then it's a freakin' bloodbath...needles going every different direction stabbing the poor elephant in the most inappropriate places! And then there was that day where all that 'intuitiveness in my knitting' failed me and I knit the first ear upside down. Um yeah...wasn't feeling the love on that day. But it truly is a genius design with no seaming and the end result is just the cutest thing. My Elijah is fairy small due to the yarn and needle combination I use (about 9.5 inches standing), but it seems the perfect size for a wee little one.
More deets on Ravelry.

One day I will try some of Ysolda's other toys...Otto and Sophie in particular! In the meantime...I hope little Rowan 'Tadpole' Tinks and Frogs enjoys her Elijah!

Spring is finally coming to NE Oregon. Though these pictures were taken in between snow showers, some flowers are brave enough to show their beautiful faces this early!

He is so cute! I like knitting toys for baby gifts as well but do agree they can be fiddly.

What a cutie! I'm sure Tadpole will love on Elijah for years to come. I've only made a small bird before, and that was pretty irritating. The toys are mighty cute, though.

Good Job... I knew you'd get through it, and still admit you'd do yet another one! It is just so darn cute! Lucky Rue.

How precious! I've tried to knit that pattern several times, but I just can't get the cast on. I don't know what I'm doing wrong and I've looked at lots of tutorials. I mess it up every time, though. lol Having two children that are very attached to stuffed animals that they received as babies, I can tell you it will be loved. :)

Thank you! I absolutely love it and I'm sure Rowan will, too. She's just starting to focus on things so it will be lots of fun to introduce her to a new toy.

And the best part? She can't outgrow it! How a not-quite-2-month-old baby can be too big for her 3-month sized clothes is beyond me.

oh he's totally adorable! you had me completely cracking up in your descriptions of the knitting bloodbath though! i totally know what you mean though, knitting toys takes a special brand of patience that i rarely can muster.
SO SO worth it though- i am sure he will be much loved for a lifetime!

That's so cute! And you are dead on about that baby not being able to wear any more handknits! Good thing is - babies grow and she'll need more!

Elijah is so cute but Otto is going to be adorable too. And on time!

Fiddly but at least small.

Rachel he is so cute. I really don't know how you can give him away actually :) I cannot knit such things. Soft toys require patience. I have sewn a few in my lifetime and that was painful as well. Hope you are doing well. We finally are seeing some spring days!

Oh, I love your Elijahs! Which reminds me that I still owe Jasper his elephant...good thing he hasn't brought that up lately, as the pattern is still MIA in our storage unit from the move! Ahhh!
