Every time Phoe posts her 'what I've been doing' along with a link soup, I am reminded how much I love that idea. A review of the week mostly in photos...what she's reading, knitting, listening to, cooking etc. As well as linking to some cool things she has seen around the web.
So here's my first attempt at doing something similar...
Making me happy this week:
(clockwise from top left) playing with my new lens...a decent snow finally...delicate blooms in winter...fresh from the oven baked baguette with home-made pear butterCrafting:
(clockwise from top left) working on something warm (Melissa, does this look familiar?)...10 minutes a day (more to come on this startling development soon!)...a couple more inches of border to go...finishing up a knit made from very special gift yarn
In the Kitchen:
- as per Jacey's recommendation...made this...go, make it yourself
- outside of the above, not many new recipes this week...instead, with a busy work week, relying on staples like this and this and this
- baking easy, quick, delicious bread
- almost finished When Will There Be Good News by Kate Atkinson...the 3rd and final (?) in her Jackson Brodie series. Even before finishing it, we watched Case Histories, a PBS/BBC mini-series portraying all 3 books.
- listening to The Civil Wars...a music recommendation from Jacey
- obsessed with this video/song
- watched and enjoyed this series and this movie
- gave in to the hype and started this series...like it so far.

1. me, 2. Day 280/365 ~, 3. Happy New Year! - EXPLORE, 4. Home, 5. Snowmen!, 6. "Trees", 7. at dusk, 8. Crows II
Around the web:
- i don't bake many cookies but these may be in my future...i'm drawn to citrus in the winter
- denise convinced me with one sentence to read this
- and Kate convinced me to read this
- decadent
- helpful stretches for knitters
- absolutely beautiful knit collections...cable-ishous. my favorites? this and this
- these words about the origin of a blog spoke to me...'follow through on all things intriguing'
- beautiful sentiments
- made some of this and some of this for christmas gifts...now it is my turn
- i really want to make this using the same modifications (and i have that yarn in stash!
So....what was your week like?
Now playing: I Know, You Know by Babes With Axes

oooh - there's so much fun in this post!
first off - yes!! i totally recognized your project the second i saw the photo! yay!!
i'm now playing the civil wars on youtube...found a link to their website and a free download of a live album - thanks for the introduction, they're completely lovely.
can i be so bold as to suggest a "my favorite ungulate photo of the week" section? i love seeing your girls, as well as any other elk or deer you catch in your lens.
such a lovely round-up of links to explore. i enjoy Downtown too. it's a high-production-value soap opera. so fun.
have a great weekend!
What a fun post! I started watching Downton Abbey before it became well-known in the US. It is totally worthy of the hype. Enjoy!
I have to come back to this list when I have more time. Love link posts! Thank you!
I always enjoy this kind of post. I've done them before, too, but not with regularity. It's fun to see what my favorite people (such as yourself) are enjoying online and in real life!
How do you like the Civil Wars? I'm going to see them again tonight!
I love the All Things Intriguing entry. Beautiful and true!
I've been meaning to watch Downton and am going to have to sit down and try it soon.
The potato leek soup sounds amazing! I must try that soon!!
This is a great post! I don't know if I can be so organized, but I love reading other people's posts full of ideas and links :) And I second Melissa on the ungulate pictures!
I have the Atkinson series queued up, any good? Downtown Abbey...I am going to start it this weekend! And yay for spinning! Even 10 minutes a day is good...this is a good goal, actually.
That's a great review & so much happening. Your handspun looks good.
Wow, there is a lot in this post! you've been active around the web and discovered some gems. You are right, I recognize both WIPs! I can't wait to see your wurm as I LOVE the color and want to hear the story. That infinity scarf is stunning. And, as always, I love the girls. I know I owe you a response and I will try early in the week.
I LOVE your photo week in review! You take the most gorgeous pictures.
Downton Abbey is the bomb but Place of Execution looks interesting as well. I wonder if we get it......
That infinity scarf is really pretty but I would snap those strands like dry twigs putting it on, I'm sure.
Lots of good stuff, Rachel. I like your staples. I'm always seeking simple (yet still good) cooking ideas. You are starting off the year well.
I just added Downtown Abbey to my netflix queue this morning - also because of the recent hype!
I love this idea for a blog post format. Hits everything, all at once. With my sporadic blogging of late, I'll likely be stealing this idea!
ooh what scrumptious nuggets of beauty and wonderful suggestions!
i'm taking note of all your wonderful recipe suggestions and i'm excited to see how all your projects take shape. LOVE the snapshot! keep em coming!
Holy crap! This is fanfreakingtastic!
Ahhh! I love your take on this! So much neat stuff. :)
